Highlights from ‘24 Courage Classic

Victoria and Susan (one of Owen’s loving grandmas) cycled 50 miles with 3,000 ft elevation gain, while Daniel pushed himself to ride 150 miles with 8,000 ft —all to help raise funds for Children's Hospital. We were proud to join Rachel Hall’s NICU team for this event. Rachel, one of Owen’s amazing night nurses, leads the nursing ECMO NICU team and has been a true hero in our journey.

Highlights from the ride:

  • Rachel once again chose to ride with Owen’s name and picture this year, a gesture that meant the world to us. We also had the joy of meeting Rachel’s husband and their adorable daughter.

  • Surviving a hailstorm! It was unexpectedly one of the most memorable parts of the day.

  • Daniel unknowingly rode alongside former Broncos Safety David Bruton Jr. We later discovered that David is not only an incredible athlete but also a remarkable philanthropist. You can learn more about his work here!

  • Huge kudos to Bri Coy, who organized the team and raised an astonishing $50,100! Overall, the Courage Classic brought in $3.3 million!

The NICU funds raised will go towards:

  • Providing infant clothing and blankets for babies in the NICU.

  • Organizing family events and memory making activities, including personalized keepsakes for various occasions and crafts to celebrate milestones.

  • Enhancing systems that help families stay connected with their babies when they cannot be at the bedside.

  • Supporting nursing resiliency and education through events, conference attendance and specialized certifications.

As a NICU mom, these thoughtful services touched our hearts.

For instance, the hospital provided specialized infant clothing that worked with Owen’s tubes and wires. Though we had many outfits at home, most weren’t suitable for his medical needs. One morning, Rachel Hall surprised us by dressing Owen in a tiny shirt, and seeing him like any other baby was a memory we’ll always cherish.

The hospital staff also did an incredible job marking each milestone, celebrating Owen’s 8-week “birthdays” and other special moments. The memories team even helped us create a cast of his hand and ink prints of his feet. These precious mementos hold so much meaning for our family.

If you’re inspired by our experience and want to join us for the Courage Classic in the future, let us know! It’s an unforgettable way to give back.
